Hinode Views the 2012 Venus Transit – Image credit: JAXA/NASA/Lockheed Martin
WAS Member Martin Hamar traveled to Arizona where there were no clouds and captured this beautiful time lapse. (C) Martin Hamar
What an amazing day! After getting a monsoon drenching and watching the clouds cover what would be our final chance to see this incredibly rare event, the last one for 105.5 years, the skies parted for about 40 minutes and WE OBSERVED! We recorded about 40 minutes of good video from the Dome Telescope which we will stick up here soon.
As often goes with all good things like astronomy, patience has it’s rewards! To the many that stuck it out we were rewarded with incredible views of the transit. Thanks again to the HUNDREDS that witnessed history with your friends at the Westport Astronomical Society!
If you have some photos to share of your experience viewing the transit at the Observatory, please email us and we’ll get them into a gallery.
For all of our recorded footage captured at the Observatory, watch our full length transit video.
Now, who’s ready for the Transit of Mercury May 9, 2016?!?
