HELP THE WESTPORT ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY!
As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, the Westport Astronomical Society depends entirely on your tax-deductible donations as well as membership fees to fund our continued operation. Since 1974 our 100% volunteer group has operated the Rolnick Observatory as a unique educational attraction for the communities of Southern Connecticut. The cost of maintaining the Observatory's telescopes, buildings and community outreach programs are high and we receive no funding except from generous people like you; our existence depends solely on our neighbors' financial support. No amount you can give is too small and no amount is too great! ALL donations are welcome but we'd especially love to have you, your family or company as members of our Society. Membership offers multiple benefits, including discounted magazine subscriptions, instant updates on astronomical events, outings to public lectures at the Hayden Planetarium and overnight trips to star parties including the annual Stellafane convention in Springfield Vermont. There are also educational and lecture opportunities available only to WAS members:
Adult classes, including the chance to learn how to operate our telescopes. Qualified graduates of this program receive a key to the grounds and become full-fledged members of the WAS team hosting public nights. Key holders also have the privilege of using the Society telescopes at their leisure, including nights when the Observatory is closed to the general public.
WAS: The Next Generation, our club for kids. TNG meets on the third Friday of every month in the Fred Bump Education Center. Kids in grades 3 to 8 and their families can learn about astronomy and space, having fun in the process! Meetings feature kid and adult guest speakers, astronomy demonstrations, films and other activities. When the sky is clear, adult members point out stars, constellations, galaxies and other astronomical objects with Society telescopes. Though there are adult moderators, this is a club run by kids for kids. TNG members elect their own officers and run the meetings.
Individual, Family, Student, Senior and Corporate memberships are available.
